Thuja plicata ’Spring Grove'

Spring Grove® Western Arborvitae
The solution to deer problems! This fast-growing, cold-hardy evergreen was selected for its superior winter color and excellent resistance to deer browsing. It maintains a dark, glossy green color even through harsh Midwest winters and is hardy to -25°F. With its tight pyramidal form and vigorous growth, it's an ideal choice for privacy screens, hedges, or formal landscape designs—especially in suburban areas where deer pressure is a concern.

  • Holds rich green color through fall and winter

  • Cold hardy, drought and heat tolerant

  • Fast-growing with year-round interest

  • Native to North America

Uses Notes:
An excellent landscape plant that grows quickly—perfect for use as a screen. Also well-suited for holding banks, as a specimen, or featured in winter and woodland gardens, shrub borders, and naturalized areas.

Maintenance Notes:
Prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soils, but is adaptable to a range of pH levels and soil types. Tolerates medium moisture and is often found in the wild along moist flats, riverbanks, slopes, swamps, and bogs.

  • Best if pruned in late fall to maintain shape

  • Fertilize in early spring with a slow-release evergreen fertilizer (follow label directions)
