Acer Freemanii ’Marmo’
Acer × freemanii, commonly known as Freeman maple, is a naturally occurring hybrid between red maple (Acer rubrum) and silver maple (Acer saccharinum). Cultivars like 'Marmo', introduced through the Chicagoland Grows® program, are prized for their reliable performance, attractive form, and adaptability to urban and suburban environments.
Seedless Hybrid:
Marmo maples are a seedless hybrid, combining key traits from both parent species. They feature the strong branching and vibrant fall color of red maple, along with the fast growth and adaptability of silver maple—without the mess of seed drop.In fall, Marmo displays a striking range of colors from yellow to red, sometimes including burgundy and green. The exact coloration can vary depending on the individual tree, weather, and site conditions. Many trees also show a mottled mix of these hues, creating a unique and beautiful seasonal display.
With its upright, oval form and tolerance for tough growing conditions, Marmo is an excellent choice for streetscapes, parks, and residential plantings alike.
