Fagus sylvatica 'Riversii'

• Grows 50-60’ tall (occasionally up to 100’) with a dense, rounded crown.

• Best in deep, rich, moist, well-drained soil; intolerant of poorly drained sites.

• Prefers full sun to part shade; difficult to transplant.

• More soil-tolerant than American beech.

• Features smooth, dark gray bark and wavy, mostly untoothed leaves.

• Native to central and southern European woodlands.

• Commonly used as a shade tree

• Foliage emerges deep purple in the spring and fades to a purple green in summer; turning copper in autumn
